LUCKNOW: A 50-year-old RSS functionary was killed following a violent assault in Bheekam Chhapra village under Lar police station limits in Deoria.The deceased Rameshwar Tiwari, was assaulted during a clash on Oct 1 and next day he succumbed to his injuries. Following his death, Tiwari’s wife, Amrita Devi, lodged an FIR against four named and ten unidentified persons.Four police personnel including Station officer Lar have been suspended following the incident, while senior officers are monitoring the investigation. Police said the assault was an outcome of old land property issue within the family.Those suspended are Lar SHO Rakesh Singh, beat sub-inspector Rammoorat Ram, and constables Chandrabhan Bharti and Pritam Yadav.“Four policemen have been suspended for negligence. Four police teams have been formed and are conducting raids to arrest the accused,” DIG Gorakhpur Range, S Channappa said.According to the FIR registered on the complaint of Tiwari’s wife, Amrita Devi, seven named accused and 10 unidentified persons have been booked under several provisions of the BNS sections 103(1) (murder), 191(2) and 191(3) relate to rioting, including rioting while armed with a deadly weapon; 190 (unlawful assembly), 115(2) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and others.The FIR names Sanjay Tiwari, Deepak Tiwari, Pranjal Tiwari, Abhineet Tiwari, Aditya Tiwari and Nikhil Tiwari, all residents of Bhikham Chhapra.As per FIR, around 5 pm on October 1, the accused allegedly arrived at Tiwari’s house armed with sticks, a hammer and a heavy iron tool. Amrita alleged that the group attacked her husband on the head with the hammer and iron implement over an old dispute, leaving him unconscious and seriously injured.When she attempted to intervene, she too was allegedly assaulted, the complaint states.Tiwari was taken first to the Lar Community Health Centre, from where doctors referred him to Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College in Deoria because of his critical condition. He was declared dead on arrival at the medical college, according to the FIR.Police and local residents said the two sides had been in conflict for about a year. According to local accounts, a dispute had earlier arisen over irrigation of wheat crops. The disagreement was subsequently settled, but tensions reportedly continued.There were also discussions about a dispute over land used as a passage, with the two sides having confronted each other on earlier occasions.On Thursday, road-pitching work was underway along the main road adjoining Tiwari’s house. Tiwari reportedly had a speed breaker constructed near his residence to slow down vehicles. Members of the other side objected to the construction, following which an argument broke out.The FIR alleges that the confrontation escalated when the accused reached near Tiwari’s house and attacked him with weapons.There were also previous incidents linked to the dispute. Police had earlier taken action after complaints from Tiwari, while a tractor driver associated with him was also allegedly beaten to death following a dispute with a local resident, according to local accounts.
